That is that, so you want a sampleof it right now, please. I want to hear it yeah. Ah, who killed your fiter? Oh,is that dirty rat maclamo yeah debt does have a Mac like an old like an old school likeahs mobster kind of named to it yeah totally you so you agree with me onthis right O. Yes, Ihighly recommend it by the way that comes to my highest recommendation everever Erever, it's a great website best website, so good, so good. But you knowwhat's even better what thriftshop by Maclemore, because that is what Oh yeah. That is what we are talking about to day. Okay, now you mean you mean thriftshop by mackla, more man, maclimo, yeah, memalamoi yeah, all right cool, let'sget into it. Let's see, I say we do now thrirst shop by maclamore, alsofeaturing Michael Wansley ak a wanes who, like maclemores, also from Seattle,an this song was off the album. The heist and hi came out in two thousandand twelve, which actually makes me. I feel like this long makes me feel oldbecause I feel like thes song to me is new or newer, but it's eight years oldnow, which I feel like like. If I listen to a song from the S or S and'slike Oh thirty or forty years ago, I'm like yeah. I already know that it's youknow an older song. I get it, but this song to me. I feel like Oh, this cameout like two or three years ago. No, it's Alit's coming up on ten years now,so that I feel like that boy that really a no man. I feel youbecause I recently took a road trip and I put on a station. That said, theywere going to play classic rock and they did to a degree. I mean I heardlike Jesse's girl, but then they would play blackhole sum by sound garden andI went wait, hold the phone. Is this really happening to me right now? Butwhen you look in the context of time? Yes, I suppose it makes sense, butsomething that's come out in the last ten years dude I often lose track oftime and I'm surprised really surprised...

...like you that it is as old as it isyeah W. I remember when it came out and yeah on t know. I definitely just Idon't know. I feels a lot newer than what it is, and maybe that's maybethat's just because the song is great and the song is still fresh. That'swhat it is Mayno, maybe not I don't know I was trying. I was trukay sure so thrift shop was written by BenHaggerdy and Ryan Lewis and, like I said, the song came out in two thousandand twelve Dave. What are some of your memories of this song? One of thewonderful things about doing the show with you drew is that you expose me toartists and music that maybe I've heard of before, but I never really took adeep diveinto or even any kind of dive whatsoever, and I mean literally likestick in my towe into the water to test the temperature, and that is the casehere with macla Mar I mean I've heard about him in the wind, but I neverstopped to give him a sample, so my memories are basically of you, myfriend, Oh, I feel honored yeah we're like kind of running towards eachother's slow motion in a field with you know a h thrift shot playing in thebackground. Maybe again I don't know if that's really appropriate or not, butmight not, maybe know whattess. For that a moment right before we embracein this field of gold, maclamwol POPs up e goes hey guys and hey go you andyou go you and there we are there. It is maclamor making dreams happen. Okay, yeah that that I might buy sure. Yes, so I mean I don't for mepersonally, I don't remember the first time I heard it, but I remember when Idid hear I was hooked and I also like I said I also freally find thishard to believe this song came out in two thousand and twelve definitelyfeels a lot more recent. But this song stuck with me because I used to lovegoing to thrift stores and I was in college and one of my good friends. Heactually the one who got me hlooked. My friend Jeff got me hooked on going tothose thrift stores and when Wans says...

I only got twenty dolar in my pocket. That was literally me in college and I could get about four shirts for thatamount. Ang Yeah, well yeah. It was well Itwas, either shirts or beer forthat for that week, so yeah, but so one funny stort right so my friend hand Iwere out at a bar and he had some. I forget what it was yeat some schoolsloacross shirt on now he never played Lacrosse ever him and I actually playedbaseball in college, but neither of US had any idea what orware that schoolwas ye had no idea what what university your school that was from never playedthe cross, never had any idea. You know what was going on with that school, sowe're out of a bar and after a few drinks. This guys, you know, sittingnext to us, says hey you play the cross there. So my friend said yeah, I playedthere a couple years ago and the other guy was like really. I thought that wasan all girls school. So instead of admitting he was busted, he justdoubled down and said yeah the schools now open everyone, so yeah the guy left us alone after that, but Ialways love getting the most random shirts at those stores and they alwayslike fit nicely to. I don't know why, but they also always had this like oddsmell to them, but like a few washes- and you were good to go so I would I wwhat I would like to hear from our listeners. Have you ever gone to athrift store and what are some of your best purchases you've gotten from athrist? So I love. I would love to hear that. So, if you still have it, youknow send the picture over to us. You know to our twitter page or our emailand yeah. I like to hear what you guys K, what you guys have come up withthere. Can I also throw a suggestion out there for people. Doin may not havegone thrift shopping much in the past shirts, they're great they're,wonderful! You just mentioned they fit good, they might smell a little funky, but hell wash them avoid people's pants. I never use use pants or you shorts.Ever ever ever ever, there's no way in hell. I would ever buy those from athrift store yeah. I agree with you. I...

...never bought pants unless it was likefor. I was trying to put like a costume together then I would do. But again Iwas only wearing it like once or twice yeah, but I E D B I've never boughtlike actual pants there yeah, but shirts man I bought. I don't even knowhow many shirts I bought abought one from. I think I think it was like anArizona, cardinals football camp tshirt, one time, Huh itwas, like ArizonaCardinals football camp like participation, Tshirt, or somethinglike that. So I wore that out, seeing if anybody would notice hey and that'sall fine and good, but when we start talking about where people put theirown speakables and then you do the same. I don't know man just my mind getswrapped up in that I can't do it. So that's a general rule. I personally usethat might be beneficial to other people out there. Who knows I mean you, obviously not yeah. I have no problem. I said no problem with shirts pants, like I said if it's like a costumonm wering once or twice a no know not evenfor if, if I er, if I went if I went out if I went out- and I saw the blueor the orange like Tuxedos from dumb and Dumber, I would buy the entirething and I would wear the pants the shirt, the jacket, everything I woulddo. I'd wear all of it. That's the kind of life you're going to have sorrybuddy, that's fine, that's fine! I can O, but this song hit. This is a number onesong Dave, this Song Gat Number One on the US ot one hundred yea number onebuddy wow February. Second, two thousand andthirteen, and before we getinto some of the rest of the chart numbers, here's some more numbers thatI think you'll really appreciate. This song has been streamed over six hundredand twenty two million times on spotify. THAT'S INSANE! That's like that's likeeverybody in the United States. Listening to this song twice just Abou, that's how popular this song is O. I don't know if I buy that, though youknow well, I mean no, I get it. I shouldn't say I don't buy it because Ido okay, that's a legit stat, but...

...recently my kid has been talking toAlexa and asking her to play a song and it's like maybe eight or nine times aday. He requests his song. So I mean there are ways to kind of beef up thosenumbers right kind of pump them up. Oh I'm, not I'm not saying you knoweverybody in he. United States has listened to it twice, but I just putthat number out there to help you know draw. You know it's to help pain, apicture. I understand how many times yeah I mean. I mean honestly. I'velistened I've listened to this song. I don't even know how many times threethousand times three and that's just as neaks yeah, that's whatit. You KnowJeez Louise Yeah, but so, like I said this song was number one on the Ho onehundred February. Second, two thousand and Hirteen here's the rest of that topfive. It was a pretty good top five. Actually, okay, yeah Thrifts yeahthrift, shop, OT number one locked out of heaven by Bunamaris that to goodsong, Ho, hey by the luminars at number, three good Song Sui and tie by Justintimber like an Jz at four, and I knew you were troubled by Taylor- swift. Whya missing in the house! I love it number five. So that's a pretty goodtop five there and there was also some nights by fun at eighteen. This is a Ifeel like this. One is destined to be on our show Gangham style by SI atnumber thirty one I feel like. We probably should make that one happen orif you got wor, I you guys would like to make it happen by all means. You cansend this a note and they know throw a couple bucks our way, yep so worth theshow, we'll move it to e to the top of the Class Yep. I will. I will wait byMumfordand sons. That's a good song at thirty two radioactive by imaginedragons at thirty. Six and call me, maybe was forty one at that time. So Ifeel, like I remember, a lot of those songs a that time, pretty good yeah.Well, that's like the commute to work top forty playlist, you know so yeah. That's why it's it'Sapo Aa Stevens Yep, shadows, Steen Yeah! So, like I said this song thrift shopwas on the album the heist now. How...

...does this song compare to the rest ofthe album? That's kind of something we like to talk about and dig into to seeis thes song similar to the other songs on the album, or does it stand out insome way or you know? Is it just kind of like Rinson repeat, you know thatthey were, you know, were the rest of the song similar that they just kind offollow a particular formula, and this one just happen to stick. So we like tokind of talk about all those things to see. You know what happened here now.First of all, the one thing ing to bring up before e even get into this. This album was released on maclimore's independent label, which is maclimorLLC, and he had distribution handled by the ADA like how cool is that this is afucking independent album. That's that I mean that's impressive, veryimpressive CRADIC and overall this album persy. I thinkit's amazing. It starts off with a song. Ten thousand hours, which is probaby, lie more like a serious song. Talking about you know just putting into timeand how you know the old ten thousand hours is what it takes to mastersomething right and also ten houzand hours was the B side, the thrift shop, and I love that song. I love the line where he says the grates weren't great, because at birth they could paint the greats were great because they paint alot. So I know I'm a big fan of that song. Very it's inspirational and itjust shows you know you put in that time. You'll get good. The next songcan't hold us featuring Rad Dal, an it's a great hype song. I love thatsong also hit number one on the US bover hoone hundred, so this album hadtwo number one songs on there pretty impressive a then we have three shop inthe three spot and then thin line. Another good song was some seriouscontent about having healthy relationships. Then we have same lovefeaturing Mary Lambert, another great song about the issue of gay and LesbianRights, and this single hit eleven on the US billboard, hotone hundredsoitsit's a great song. It's it talks about some serious stuff there, anothersingle on the yeah, no a very good message. Another single on the albumwas white walls featuring schoolboy,...

...qee and Hollis that hit number fifteenon the US billboard, hotone hundred and the rest of the album is gray, I'm notgoing to get in every single song, except one song, which is called my omy.Now this song at least for me anyway. It hit me atall angles, so, basically thes song talks about how maclemore played littleleague as a kid love. Listening to the mariners on Te Radio, we talks aboutthe ninety five divisional series between the marimers and Yankees, andthen he ends the song. With like a baseball analogy to living life and, like I said this song gives me all the feels in a few ways and one of which isnostalgia right as I love thinking about when I was a kid playing a littleleague and B Bruth, so much fun. You know I miss those days. Always you know, put the smal O my face. I now he talks about the ninety five series. Iremember that because it made me cry because I'm a Yankees Fan and that wasdon Matdingley's last season and the way the Yankees lost, that series tothe mariners absolutely broke my heart, but the lyrics are put together welland the music really does a proper job of enhancing the mood here. So while Ilove Thrifshop Myomai is hands down my favorite song on this album, butgetting back to thrift shop. You know there's a lot of serious discussion ofissues on this album, but thrift shop is a little bit lighter, although theydo, I think, have a little bit of a point behind it, but yeah. I think firtshop stands away a little bit because I feel like it is a bit more lighthearted, but still, I think, will written any any thoughts from youon onthat drew. I can appreciate your fandom for the artist and your respect, forthe album is a whole, so I just want to talk about this song in particular and, first and foremost, it being an introduction for me to their music, andfor that reason I must state to you. Sadly, I know this is going to breakyour heart, but I wasn't very impressed. I found he song to be very repetitive. The lyrics were fun, they were quirky,...

...but it wasn't something thatimaginative or maybe even Atlandish, to catch my attention or to say: okay, these guys they're putting their flag on the moon. This is what they do. Ishould go back and listen to more of their back catalogue or even the restof this album. To be perfectly honest, I thought itwasn't even much better than some of these independent artists a'd herewrapping on sound cloud, so the flow didn't really hook me in very much. That being said, it wasn't terrible, itwasn't horrible, but I do not believe in my case this was the proper song toget to know maclormore by I mean well, I mean I think this was thi might have been a lot of people'sintro to him and that's fine. You know I it for me it was s my introduction tohim and for me I enjoyed the song. I thought it was funny and again I alsohave you know a little bit of a connection to like going to thrift, shops and stuff. So I kind of thought it was funny. Then I started listeningto. I was like Od. This is actually pretty hilarious and then I don't knowDhen for me, then I got Ntho th rest of the stuff and I was a little surprisedabout how serious a lot of his other stuff was. So it was. It wasinteresting. You know just like the difference, like it kind of reminds mea little bit of you know that band extreme from theearly S, Gary Sheron, no, no Battn court. Sure a lot of people like theintroduction to them was more than words, which is a awesome song. Again Iwouldn't mind talking about that song here, guys. If anyoy wants to make thathappen again, you know visit our website. Songss come wrongcom shamelessplug, but you know a lot of people also. You know heard that song and were like.Oh this song is so great. Let's look, let's listen to the rest of the album. Those guys are, you know, I don't know if I call them like a metal band, butthey're definitely a hard rock band and the rest that out firstfhall that albumwas called Porno, gruffidi, so e little bit F or risque type name, but the alot of their other stuff is, you know pretty heapy Neu no can shred overthere. So I feel like this is kind of...

...the same way. Like you hear this song, and then you hear the rest of his stuff and you're like Holy Shit. It's alittle bit different, but he still has a lot of good beats. I will say that, but lyrically I personally, I think the lyrics are great. A few of my favoritelines are rolling in hello, deep, headed to the mezzanine dress in allpink set, my gaitor shoes, those are green. I love that th that Lone alwayscracks me up. I love this Art Kelly Dis and in the video. It's absolutelyhilarious. The way they kind of you know, visualize that I like when Wansays I'll. Wear your grandads clothes. I look incredible. I'm in this big asscoat from the thrift shop down the road. That's so good! That's so good! NowYeah, but it's not thit's, not okayall. Right again, I understand this was a changeof pace for them and when you don't know that you just kind of look at itand go yeah, theye just being silly or whatever, and then, when I startdthinking about a hiphop artist. Who might have that really strangeinteresting way of writing lyrics. My mind immediately goes to cool Keith, dor octagon right, that's the first person I think of so that's a that's aa hard act to follow when I'm already kind of going well yeah as funny asQuirky, but s it's something like this. No, it's not really that creative butlisten drew. I watch antiques road show. Okay, I follow them on twitter. I knowhow cool the thrift shop is. I don't need Maclamor Telli me that it's a coolplace to be. I go there. I sho up there by knitknecks there yeah, I'm all aboutthe Chotckis Baby, come on guys, but that's you, though, right and andthere's one other line where he says limited adition. Let's do some simpleaddition and fiftydollars for a Tshirt. That's just some ignorant bitch shit, which that line right there, I think, actually really gets to the heart ofthis song. Now I know you said you're. A big Fan of antiques road show sure, but a lot of rap songs right bring up how fancy their stuff is right. Theytalk about. Jewelry suits expensive cars. You know those are oftin topicsand raps on Te maclemor saying: Hey...

...guys, you don't need that find your ownstyle and you can do that and not have to drop fifty bucks for one tshirt. NowI mean and again you I feel like both of us. You know agree on that. Right. We don't need to. You know, spend a lot of money on fancy clothes, we're notreally care about that. But when you listen to like the genre like music ingeneral, it's a lot of it's about like fancy and I kind of like going toextremes whereas maclimores like you, don't needthat and I think that's where tha, I think that's where he kind of gets youa little bit yeah, I'm not about the flash with my clothing, even though I I do happen to do. You know it's one ofthose things where I say to someone: Oh you don't need to spend thirty bucks ina t, shirt, yeth I'll, go out and we're both baseball fans, and I will spendthirty dollars on a red sock shirt. When I don't need another red sockshirt. Do you know what I mean yeuknow? Nobody needs any other red sock, shirtsand just to kind of do some fact checking here you know shut up. So youknow I didn't hear Thatut, I'm actall, I'm looking at something else right now, because I do want to check this out is: I am on maclamor's official site rightnow, okayand. I said their name properly because I have a litt well Iwas, Gointa, say a little bit ofrespect because their shirts are not fifty dollars. They are somewhat reasonably pricedhere from anywhere from twenty five tothirty dollars. So I guess they. Youknow they practice what they preach. Good for you, Mimacclama, yeah and I'll.Tell you what well while maclimor is a solid musician. I think you might evenbe a better financial adviser, so he's got he's got skills, okay! Well, so itseems like you were also looking for a life coach and some of the lyrics thereso on the Album Oo, this song- but you know overall so he's gonna or daybecause clear this up for me right with the with the Ryan Lewis. Is that like apermanent team or is it just maclamore...

...with him every once in a while or kindof I'm the young Mete Nad? It fill me in yeah, so they both worked on thatalbum together. Right Ryan was more. You know handling a lot of the writingwith him, as well as the music maclimoores is kind of the alsoinvolved yeknow with you know, with the music and the lyrics and stuff, buthe's the voice. Obviously, but yeah Ryan Lewis is kind of I'most say like abackground. Guy Huh he's more of a background. Guy Than you know, macamoreis okay, but he still gets his name in the building, which is very impressive, correct, yeah, okay, Yep all right, so I think we covered off on a couplethings here. I think we're ready for our final verdict: Youre Dave sothey've. Do you think thrift shop by Maclamore? Is He legit hite? Or do youthink this song went wrong? I think it went wrong. I mean I really can't get over t therepetitive nature of the song, where you get thathorn section kicking over and over and over again, and I don't even thinkthere was like a little drop to change it for very long. So the whole song tome almost seems like you're in school and that one kid was tapping on theshoulder going: Hey, hey, hey, hey to me that is thrish up by Mac Lamor, where I just can't get over the annoying. Just really repetitive sound of thesong. lyrically wasn't blown away by it, but listen! I will give them anotherchance. I didn't do it this time and that's bad on me. I know I'm on a musicpodcast. I probably should have broadened my horizons a little bit, butI did just want to focus on this song and my thoughts on this tune alone, andthis one just doesn't have it for me yeah. I would, I would definitely saycheck out my on mind. I know you're a baseball fan to and you o Red Soc anyou just crapped on me. You Jerk, I know, but I'm saying you might youwaitin, that's right. You might enjoy that song because he's Talkd about theninety five division of the series, where the mariners actually beat theYankee, so the Yankees lost in that...

...particular series. So you may get someenjoyment from it. Just from that or I'm Mello now times have changed. Yeah.Okay, so is read: Sox fanswere chill breed now. Man Wo four wit, MelloMellow people, but it's a good song. I mean that song is up there for me,like all time like that song, I think, is that good? It's very it's like. Isaid it hits you from a lot of different ankles, but we ere nottalking about Myam. I we're talking about thrift shop and what I think about it is you know, andthen obviously right, I don't advise popping tags and shoplifting, but thissong does have at all. I think that that saxophone Rif that you're talkingabout before I like that Sax riff on loop. I think it's super catchy and itdoes kind of get stuck in your head and and like that Sax riff. The course isalso in Stanley CETCHY. The verses, I think, are creative and the main pointhere is you don't need to have expensive clothes to press anyone, because most people that are smart can see right through that bullshit oranybody worth having in your life only cares about you, not the superficialstuff. I think the song's a definite hit and what makes this song even moreimpressive is that maclimor did all this on his own independent label. Thisalbum won a grammy for best rap album and was also nominated for album of theyear and the Heist has sold over one point: five million cobies in the US-and I know I'm talking about the album, but the song first shop, I think, is alegitihit. Now, if I do our math, we have one person say it's a hit. We haveone person say it's a song that went wrong. Yeah whic means what does thatmean Dave? We go into the fans baby, we're going to toss this one over tothe fans and, as we calculate our vote here, seventy nine percent said yes, this is a legit hit Wowso, as always, democracy, rules to hirds vote. Okay, maclimor's thrift shop is a hit and we have somefeedback to. We have Jonathan O'Neil...

...who goes by at Fortello. Primo said heliked it so Jonathan. I agree with you there and Melinda Briniwhtho goes by atMalenda Barnet said now it's going to be stuck in my head all day, which isnot a bad thing, so yeah well there. It is man not bad for for her, but thatOer guy like me, who, I think, what I call it trumpet and you call it Sax. SoI'm pretty sure you're accurate on this, but still that was just I can't do it just a nois. You have aliving crap out of me. It's like that whatas that Jennifer Lopezz song was itlike. Can't can't stop or can't wait was the name of that song where and it had that, like Little Horn, section yeah a D it kept out SDT, but ain't Theni. I was like stop please forthe love of Christ. Someone turn this off because when something just keepsgoing on and on and on like that, it's grating on my soul. I needl change itup. A little bit you know kind of I don't know man like I can appreciateyou get in a groove, getting down getting something. You know a littlefunky having some fun, your young. That's what you do, I'm an old man. Ican't do that anymore, but the same time it's like, I don't think it's veryoriginal. It drives me bonkers, that's fine to weach his own man. It better befine, and I know where you live now. That's right! You Dod! Damn it Yep, I'MIN TROUBLE! Yeah! Now, I'M IN TROUBLE! Yep Gonto. Take you down at the tit forshop that In't, didn't come out of my mouth very smoothly: Thrift Shop, thestore, yeah, there's one not too far. Actually I have yet to go there. I'vereally been well. I've been tliving here for almost four years now in thisnew house, and I feel like I should take a drive overthere one day, yeah see what they have tops, I'm not going to pop tags. Nodon't pop tags, but I man, Co, ont, ever Tese hops, like I'm Goingna, getyou the grossest items that anybody else could ever discard any thriftstore for sale and, like I mentioned pants earlier, but how about flip flops?Would you wear someone's usoh flops...

...drew o? No, no! You change your Ti.Draw the loi draw the line there. Yeah I draw the line there. So what's thedifference between feet and someone's, you know he stains wias, GNA Sotental,AE stain, yeah at's. What I mean, it's just the fact that the t the boys, theplumbing, was there. I know you know but feetfeed what it does. Does it for you, that's the Nono Yeah. I draw the lineat flip flops. That's okay, O good other Ekan, Likei, wer socks. It's notthat bad, but flip flops O ow. No, no! Not that Puin you! How about you sucks?Could you wear those? No? No! I would not you shoe you shoes. I would yeah because it's abuffer because you have the buffer of my own socks, that's right, yeah! Soall right, I see what you're saying there. Thi S A so you could all right. So maybe in the spirit of you drew, I could wear someone else's use pants. IfI had a diaperon you see or not or or just likeunderalls. Well, you know what sometn just came into my brain dung, terriblesummertime well yeah, but I was thinking like me by saying: Oh Yeah IDwear a diapers. I could wear the pants. That kind of implies that I don't wearunderwear that I'm kind of just going in there. You know barback, but that'snot the case. I just need an extra. You know some some additional paddingbecause yeah much like drew the flipflop thing. It's like the wholeconcept, the idea of yeah some something else being in there. Just Ican't get over yeah and I would not wear socks and floplops that's now. Wedon't. We don't do that around here. I wit ae the person to send us a photo oftheir thrift shop, scores on twitter t and like check out these cool, pantsand sandals. I got and then me and you and like unison, like is Friday, and Is Ice Cube and Chris tacker were like day no at yeah. No, you know and ifanybody has gotten them, please send it...

...over, because I would re like to seethat that'd be great, no Wuld. You can get all kinds of great stuff in troofshops. Oh, I do yeah. Just close. I know you can get like a lamp dude likelike Borga. You can get like some really awesome. fucking board games atthrift. Shops too. I know that's why I told you man, I love nick necks andChatkis. I go crazy for that stuff. When I go thate I've been collectinglighthouses like weird, just random light house. Ther carved of wood, theycoul be made out of soap, doesn't matter to me, anm like Oha Lighthouse,it's a dollar I'm going to buy it. Do I need it?
